Welcome to the future of smart water management

Smart water meters are coming to North Battleford. This is an exciting program, bringing efficiency and innovation to North Battleford. The system will offer more insights into customers' water use and empower the residents to be water conscious and sustainable for the future.

The web portal to your meter is currently unavailable. The web portal is anticipated to go live for customers in late 2021 or early 2022.

Benefits of Water Meter Upgrading

Smart water meters upgrades will provide benefits to residents, commercial and to the City (rate payers). These upgraded meters will bring efficiency and information to the user, allowing you to make informed decisions about your water use.

Property owners will have accurate on demand water usage information, with this information accessible from anywhere you have an internet connection (this feature will not be immediately available). Estimate billing will become a thing of the past, and no more adjusted billing because of inacurate estimates. With smart water meters you will no longer have to read your own meter to phone or mail in your usage, and that means no more having to squeeze into a tight space to read your meter.

Smart water meters will reduce the number of City of North Battleford vehicles driving around the city, allowing for savings in fleet costs, improved staff efficiency, reducing fuel expenses and reducing our carbon footprint. Troubleshooting water issues will be accelerated, reducing the waste of water.


Details About Your Meter Upgrade

Starting March 1st Water Meter installation will start, installation will be completed by zones. Properties will receive a series of communication hand delivered to their household notifying them that their zone is scheduled for upgrade. Please respond within 10 days to schedule your smart meter installation, the contact information will be provided in the letters. Appointments can easily be booked online or by phone.

Installation of the new meter upgrade is expected to take about 30 to 45 minutes for residential building, commercial installations can experience installation times between two and four hours.

Appointments will be available between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, Monday to Friday and between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Saturdays.

Please ensure that an adult is home and pets are secured in another room to provide access to the service technician. KTI Ltd will be completing the Meter installation. KTI will not access the location if an adult is not present. KTI Installers will be following detailed Covid-19 precautions with proper PPE and will wear boot covers to keep your homes clean.

The Upgrade is expected to take several months through December 2021.

About AMI Water Meters

Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) which is a technology that allows utility meters to be read remotely. These upgraded water meters will allow accurate on-demand, and automatic utility reading. A web portal will be provided later in the year providing users with in depth information about their water consumption.

COVID-19 Safety Measures
  • All KTI Staff will complete a daily Covid-19 Assessment prior to starting work that includes a questionnaire and temperature screening
  • KTI Staff will wear/use the following PPE:
    • Nonmedical grade mask
    • Gloves
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Sanitizing wipes
  • KTI Installer will attempt to phone Residents for the scheduled appointment
    • If phone contact is unsuccessful Installer will contact Resident by door knock
      • Installer will sanitize hands
      • Installer will wear a face mask
      • Installer will wear gloves
      • Installer will to the best of their ability maintain 2 metre social distancing
      • Installer will conduct a questionnaire with the Residents prior to entry
        • If the Resident fails or refuses the assessment the installation will be postponed
  • Installers will try and avoid contacting surfaces in the Residents home
  • Installer will proceed directly to the water meter
    • Assess water meter and determine tools/equipment required
    • While Socially distanced, explain installation process to Resident
    • Clean existing Meters/Plumbing with disinfectant wipes
  • Installer will change gloves and sanitize hands prior to next appointment
