RCMP, social agencies teaming up for new downtown patrols in North Battleford

During Wednesday’s State of the City event, Mayor Kelli Hawtin, along with RCMP Inspector Ryan How, announced a new initiative to enhance downtown North Battleford.

A team, which includes social agencies, Community Safety Officers, and RCMP members, will now be dedicated to North Battleford’s downtown area.

“We are
very aware that the concerns raised about the safety in the downtown area are complex and require a multi-agency approach,” commented Battlefords RCMP Detachment Commander, Inspector Ryan How.

“Planning is underway to have health professionals, as well community and cultural leaders join the RCMP during foot patrols to ensure the appropriate support is put in place for people that need the assistance. The goal of the increased police presence is to ensure the safety of the public, while establishing more links for people suffering from addictions/health issues to receive the help they need.”

The new downtown RCMP team will also work directly with local business owners to enhance safety at their properties through the CEPTED model (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design).
