Household Hazardous Waste Day set for April 29
The City of North Battleford is hosting its first 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Day (HHWD) on Saturday, April 29. The semi-annual disposal days are an opportunity for city residents to drop off hazardous household materials free of charge.
“Like other municipalities, the City of North Battleford has hosted these events over the last number of years during the spring and fall, times when people are most likely to be cleaning out their homes, garages, and sheds,” commented Jeff Blanchard, the City’s Assistant Director of Operations.
“It’s really beneficial to ensure that residents are not just pouring hazardous materials or waste down their drains, dumping materials on the ground, into our sewer systems, or throwing items into the trash. Improper disposal of hazardous items cause serious threats to our health and can negatively impact the environment.”
A complete list of the materials accepted for disposal during the HHWD can be found at www.cityofnb.ca.
Examples of acceptable materials for disposal during HHWD include:
- Aerosols, adhesives, automotive items
- Cleaners, corrosives, fuels
- Mercury, oxidizers, oil & gas mixtures
- Poison, solvents, paint without labels
Residents of North Battleford can drop off their items at the City’s Public Works shop at 11112-6th Avenue between 8:30am-4pm on April 29th. No commercial loads will be accepted.
The City of North Battleford reminds the public that the City’s Waste Management Facility (WMF) EcoCentre accepts used oil unmixed with fuel or water, antifreeze, and car batteries for safe disposal year-round. The WMF accepts tires, electrical ballasts, and fluorescent bulbs (including compact fluorescent and LEDs) during regular hours of operation year-round.
