Discussion on arena planning will dominate North Battleford’s Planning Committee agenda on March 31
Monday’s Planning Committee Meeting for the City of North Battleford will be an especially inclusive affair, with only one topic on the agenda – future arena planning. Included will be the presentation of a feasibility study for a new regional arena and event centre build, along with an engineering report on the current Access Communications Centre, meant to outline costs to maintain, repair, and/or rehabilitate the existing facility over the next few years.
Representatives from Nustadia Recreation will present the feasibility study during the meeting to outline how a new arena and events centre may look, costing options for different models, and a preliminary evaluation of different sites which could accommodate the project in North Battleford. Members of City Council and City Administration have expressed publicly that the City cannot proceed with building a new arena without financial support from across the region. Earlier this month, First Nations, Tribal Councils, and local governments who have been invited to take part in ongoing discussions about the new arena project were asked to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize engagement in project discussions without the formal commitment to provide funding.
To date, Battlefords Tribal Council, Red Pheasant Cree Nation, the RM of Battle River, the RM of North Battleford, and the Town of Battleford have joined the City of North Battleford as MOU signatories. Representatives from all signatories will be attending the City’s Planning Committee Meeting on March 31, 2025, as participants. Those attending will be able to pose questions to consultants and offer their feedback about the feasibility study, the same as any member of North Battleford City Council. Communities and groups which have not yet signed the MOU may contact the City of North Battleford to confirm their intention to participate.
Members of the public who would like to tune in to this presentation and are encouraged to do so by Zoom as there is limited room in the public gallery at the Don Ross Centre Council Chambers. The agenda package for the City of North Battleford Planning Committee Meeting on March 31, 2025, including a copy of the feasibility study and engineering report, will be available later this week on the City’s website. The meeting will get underway at 6:00pm.
