Council Meetings will temporarily relocate to City Hall during construction of permanent Council Chambers
In order to accommodate construction of the permanent Council Chambers in the Don Ross Centre, City Hall will be the temporary venue for all City Council and Planning Committee Meetings until early 2024.
The move was confirmed during the September 25, 2023 Council Meeting. Until the renovations are completed at the Don Ross Centre Council Chambers, meetings will be held at the former Council Chambers in City Hall.
This multi-phase renovation was approved by Council in late 2022 to create a new permanent Council Chambers space that would be fully accessible. This stage of renovations will include construction and installation of a new City Council bench and administrative tables, lighting improvements, installation of new doors and a dropped-tile ceiling, technology to improve the audio and video experience, and the addition of sound-absorbing panelling on the walls.
The design RFP for the new Council Chambers was awarded to North Node Architecture in 2022. Earlier this year, City Council awarded the construction tender for the renovations to local contractor LVSchell Construction Management Services Ltd.
While Council Meetings are held in City Hall, there will be limited access for those with mobility challenges. To ensure accessibility for all members of the public who wish to view City Council or Planning Committee Meetings, these meetings will continue to be available on Zoom.
The City of North Battleford will provide a progress update as renovations near completion to provide advance notice to the public regarding when meetings will revert to the Don Ross Centre Council Chambers.
