Minimal damage reported after fire at Aquatic Centre Sunday evening
North Battleford Fire Department responded just before 8pm
November 28th 2022

UPDATE: The Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre is now on target to reopen on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 1pm.

City Operations staff are on site at the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre today assisting with clean-up efforts after a fire broke out in a dryer in the facility’s laundry room on Sunday evening.

The North Battleford Fire Department was dispatched to the pool at approximately 7:50pm Sunday with reports of smoke in the building. Upon further investigation, it was determined the fire was contained to the laundry room. The Aquatic Centre was evacuated and no injuries were reported. Fire Department units were back in service at 9:41pm.

Operations staff report that the facility’s sprinkler system was extremely effective in extinguishing the fire. However, this has resulted in a significant accumulation of water in the facility’s lobby and reception areas. The Aquatic Centre’s pool deck and pool mechanical functions were not impacted by the fire in any way.

City staff have confirmed the facility will reopen at 1pm on November 29, 2022. All regularly-scheduled programming will continue as of 1pm on Tuesday.

The City commends its Aquatic Centre staff for their efforts to keep patrons safe by performing a successful facility evacuation, and extends its gratitude to the Fire Department and maintenance crews who responded to the scene to assist.
