The City of North Battleford will be commencing construction on a new Force Main, new Sewage Pumping Station, and the decommissioning of the old Sewage Treatment Plant to provide long-term sanitary service for the residents of North Battleford.
This investment in infrastructure is needed for the continued growth of our City. Without this planned expansion to accommodate capacity, the current infrastructure would not be able to handle the growing North Battleford population. Additionally, with our changing climate, extreme weather events are becoming more regular. Current infrastructure can become overwhelmed by extreme rain events causing sewer backups for property owners or potentially cause untreated sewer to overflow into the North Saskatchewan River. This infrastructure upgrade will protect residents and our environment.
The contract for the Force Main Installation has been awarded to Hamm Construction on May 10, 2021, while the contract for the Sewage Pumping Station Upgrade and the decommissioning of the old Sewage Treatment Plant was awarded to Con-Tech General Contractors on May 25, 2021.
Work on the Sewage Force Main began during the last week of May, with pipe arriving at the storage sites along the route. It is estimated that construction of the Force main will continue until the end of 2021.
