City of North Battleford - Saskatchewan
2019 Water Line Flushing
The City of North Battleford will begin the 2019 unidirectional flushing on Tuesday, May 21
May 14th 2019

The City of North Battleford will begin the 2019 unidirectional flushing on Tuesday, May 21st with an estimated end date of Friday, May 31st. The benefits of unidirectional flushing maintenance ensure that the City’s water distribution lines are operating efficiently and water quality is optimal.

Unidirectional flushing is done by moving water through the lines at a high velocity creating a scouring action. Water is then discharged, removing any material buildup from the line. The material removed from the lines through the flushing process is harmless and requires no special treatment.

Maher Park, McIntosh Park, Kinsmen Park and Riverview neighbourhoods will all be affected. A western portion of Centennial Park and Sapp Valley and most of the Downtown neighbourhoods will be affected.

Before the scheduled flushing starts, Water Main Flushing” signs will be placed on the affected blocks and residents will receive an information flyer. Flushing will start at 7:30 pm and run overnight until 7:00 am. When the flushing has completed the signs on the street will be removed. In some cases, water main flushing of a block may take a few nights. In these cases, residents may use the water as normal during the day time hours. Once the flushing is completed in your area, it is recommended to run a tap outside or one inside closest to your water meter for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

Residents and businesses are advised not to use water while their lines are being flushed and shut down water softeners if possible during the scheduled flushing times. Water use while the flushing is active can result in stained laundry, plugged filters, and damage to hot water heaters. The City will not assume responsibility for damages.

If you use medical equipment requiring a continuous water supply, please call City Hall immediately. If you are a commercial customer that operates during the flushing hours, please contact City Hall for more information.
