Perceptions of Community Safety Survey

Principal Investigator: Dr. Tarah Hodgkinson, Department of Criminology, Wilfrid Laurier University

You are invited to participate in a community safety survey in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. We are interested in your perceptions and experiences of community safety as a resident of North Battleford.

In 2018, the City of North Battleford commissioned Dr. Hodgkinson to conduct a community safety survey, as residents of North Battleford had identified concerns about crime and safety in their community. Here, we hope to build on these initial findings to better understand changes in community safety in North Battleford since 2018. Your contributions will help us to better inform practice and policy for all of North Battleford in the future.

Information

You will be asked to complete a short survey (about 15 to 20 minutes) sharing your perceptions and experiences of community safety in North Battleford. You will also be asked to complete some health questions and demographic and data. This allows us to determine if certain groups (example women) experience community safety differently from others. This information will not be used to identify you in any way.

Community Perception Survey

In November 2022, North Battleford City Council approved a second Perceptions of Safety Survey to be conducted in 2023. Led by Wendy Verity as project coordinator, the survey questions will expand on the 2018 survey questions, as reported in the 2019 report, and will explore public health measures related to crime, victimization, and overall health of North Battleford residents. The data will be collected from survey participants both in-person and online.
