Heavy Haul

All vehicles over 9,000 kg are required to follow the Heavy Truck Route unless: 

  1. Making a collection or delivery
  2. Performing a service
  3. Proceeding to or from the business premises of the owner or operator of the heavy vehicle
  4. Proceeding to or from a garage for the purpose of repairs, servicing, refueling or storage
  5. Being operated in the service of the City 
  6. Under escort by a marked vehicle operated by a member of the R.C.M.P. or the Department of Public Works and Engineering of the City, pursuant to a valid Temporary Street Use Permit

 

Dangerous goods trucks must follow the Dangerous Goods Route unless: 

  1. Making a pickup or delivery of a dangerous good
  2. Proceeding to or from the business premises of the owner or operator of the dangerous goods vehicle
  3. Proceeding to or from a garage for the purpose of repairs, serving, or refueling

 

Operators are required to follow the bylaw and must be able to provide proof of business off the Truck Route, and shall produce their permit, if required.



Fine for being off the Truck Route without sufficient information:

$500 +

 


 

Fines for trucks over 47,000 kg operating off the Truck Route without a permit:

$1000+

 


 

Fine for driving dangerous goods off the Dangerous Goods Route:

$500 

 


 

Vehicles over 47,000 kg also require a permit to operate off of the Heavy Truck Route.

 

How to get a Heavy Truck Permit for over 47,000 kg

 

  1. Go to www.cityofnb.ca and pay with credit card
  2. In person at City Hall
  3. By phone via Public Works 306-445-1730

 

 

Heavy Haul Permit Rates


Daily: $20

Seasonal: $3,000

(April 15-November 15)

Annual: $6,000

*permits required for each truck
