TECHNOLOGIST - PLANNING & DEVELOPMENTPERMANENT FULL TIME - IN SCOPEApplications are now being accepted for the above position under the direction of the City Planner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent performs tasks related to Planning and Economic Development and is expected to respond to procedural inquiries, accept and check plans or applications for required information, enter data into computer systems, explain regulatory statutes and bylaws to the public when applicable, analyze data, and prepare mapping and visual aids for public presentation. The position will work on various planning related projects and provide support to senior administration staff in various departments including, Planning, Public Works, Economic Development, Parks and Recreation. Versatility is required as other duties may be assigned.
PLANNING SKILLS:
General knowledge of the development industry, land use planning issues and statistical analysis.
General knowledge of legislative framework under which planning applications and projects are processed. (Planning and Development Act, Cities Act and applicable environmental legislation).
General knowledge of municipal planning strategies and land use Bylaws.
Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Ability to organize the workload in a manner that is efficient and effective.
Ability to liaise with a diversity of internal and external clients while exercising diplomacy and discretion.
Proficiency in computer applications including AutoCAD Map, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Knowledge of a wide variety of software packages including, but not limited to: ArcGIS, AutoCAD Map, Map GUIDE, Internet Browsers, Adobe Acrobat.
Proficient in map compilation, graphic design/layout, research, formal writing.
Proficient in data maintenance, including spatial and attribute data sets.
Strong database analysis/development skills i.e. MS Access.
Statistical analysis with relation to population, development and existing land uses.
Ability and willingness to undertake ongoing learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Diploma from a Technical Institute related to planning or related degree from a recognized institution. Equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.
Experience working in a municipal government environment is an asset.
Certification or eligibility for certification, as an Applied Science Technologist by Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologist and Technicians.
Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers Licence.
Must provide a vehicle for which vehicle allowance will be paid.
Wages:
$21.10/hr, per CUPE collective agreement
Employment benefits per City policy.
Commencement: To be arranged competition will remain open until position is filled.
