The North Battleford Fire Department (NBFD) is a composite division within Protective Services.
The Fire Department is compromised of one Fire Chief, one Deputy Fire Chief of Training and Operations, one Deputy of Public Safety, Planning and Prevention, four Captains, twelve career Fire Fighters. This is complemented by an additional 15-20 Paid-on-Call (POC) Fire Fighters.
All career members are trained to Industry Best Practices in relation to NFPA requirements.
Part-time Fire Fighters are trained in house to industry best practices in relation to NFPA requirements in order to complement career staff during major incidents (larger grass and field fires, structure fires, major natural disasters).
We also provide technical skills in extrication, water/ice rescue, low/high angle, confined space rescue, and hazardous material response.
Every year, the NFBD responds to approximately 500 emergency calls and engages in almost 1000 fire prevention and public education activities. The majority of our emergency calls (90%) occur within city limits, although the fire department does provide some fire protection and rescue services to surrounding areas, as per contract agreements.
NBFD carries modern heavy vehicle extraction equipment, commonly referred to as the "Jaws of Life". NBFD also utilizes specialized rescue air bags, struts, and specialty rescue tools in responding to numerous accidents every year.
